About this place

Last updated Jul 20, 2026

Ciudad Acuña sits on the Mexico–U.S. border across from Del Rio, Texas, making it one of the more relaxed and straightforward crossing points along the Rio Grande. With around 216,000 residents, the city serves up a mix of cross-border tourism, handicraft shops, and a handful of well-regarded Tex-Mex restaurants.

A couple of international bridges — the Lake Amistad Dam crossing and the Del Río–Ciudad Acuña International Bridge — connect the two communities. Movie fans may recognize the setting from films such as El Mariachi and No Country for Old Men.
