About this place

Last updated Jul 12, 2026

Chongzuo is a gateway city in southwestern Guangxi, pressed against the Vietnam border and surrounded by dramatic karst landscapes. It anchors an important China–ASEAN trade corridor, but for travelers the draw is its scenery—especially the De Tian Transnational Falls—and the deep Zhuang ethnic heritage that pervades local culture. The city is also known as the “sugar capital” of China, with cane fields stretching across the fertile countryside.

Visiting here means encountering a subtropical, resource-rich region where minority traditions and revolutionary history intersect. The area played a notable role in early 1930s Communist organizing along the Left River, and memorial halls preserve that chapter. Most visitors, however, use Chongzuo as a comfortable base to explore border landmarks, scenic stone forests, and the striking waterfalls that define southern Guangxi.
