About this place
Chernihiv, one of Ukraine's most ancient cities, sits about 150 km north of Kyiv and was once the second most important center of the Kyivan Rus' state. Today it is a charming provincial city renowned worldwide for its sacred Christian temples — many nearly 1,000 years old — that stand as invaluable treasures of Ukrainian heritage.
A visit here centers on remarkably preserved Orthodox churches, two functioning monasteries, and the unique Anthony Caves, a subterranean complex holding saints' relics and miracle-working icons. Green parks, a distinctive rose-colored train station, and a compact, walkable historic core make it an easy and rewarding day trip or weekend escape from the capital.

Planning Tips
- Reaching Chernihiv from Kyiv — Marshrutkas depart from Lisova Metro station or Chernihiv Metro station (approximately 80 грн); they leave when full, typically every 15–20 minutes. Return buses pick up near the McDonald's, the Mega Mall on Prospekt Mira, and Prospect Pobeda.
