About this place
Chaozhou (潮州) sits in the easternmost part of Guangdong Province, straddling the Han River delta and forming the cultural heart of the Chaoshan region. The city’s compact historic core in Xiangqiao district is a lively showcase of centuries-old temples, ancestral halls, and traditional shophouses, all within easy walking distance.
Famed as a cradle of Teochew (Chiuchow) culture, Chaozhou has deep diaspora connections across Southeast Asia, and its culinary and craft traditions remain a powerful draw. Visitors come to sample nuanced local cuisine, admire the city’s self-proclaimed title as the "Ceramic Capital of China," and soak up a slower-paced slice of Guangdong life.
