About this place

Last updated Aug 22, 2026

Capas sits in the southern part of Tarlac province and is known as the "Tourism Capital of Tarlac." The municipality stretches from the rugged foothills of Mount Pinatubo down to the broad, populated floodplains of the Tarlac River. It holds deep historical significance as the endpoint of the infamous Death March during World War II, where surrendered soldiers were marched to the former Camp O'Donnell.

Today Capas blends a rural character with noticeable growth, increasingly overshadowing nearby Tarlac City. The foothills near Mount Pinatubo are the site of New Clark City, a large planned development intended to become the country's future administrative capital. Visitors come primarily for the solemn history, the adventurous Mount Pinatubo treks, and a taste of its developing urban-rural mix.
