About this place
Campina Grande is the second-largest city in the state of Paraíba and the biggest urban center in the northeastern interior of Brazil. It’s best known for its enormous Festa Junina (São João) celebrations in June, which draw visitors from across the country for music, dancing, and traditional food. Outside of June, the city also hosts a lively off-season carnaval, Micarande, in April.
The compact downtown sits on a hill, oriented around the Açude Velho park and its landmark obelisk. Most central sights and services are walkable, and the city offers a genuine slice of inland Northeastern culture without the coastal crowds.
