About this place
Bremen, the Free Hanseatic City, is a historic yet lively city in northern Germany straddling the River Weser. Once a powerhouse of the medieval Hanseatic League, it remains one of the north's most important urban centers and forms Germany's smallest state together with Bremerhaven. With over 1,200 years of history, much of it spent as an independent city-state, Bremen blends maritime pride with a modern cultural scene.
The city is famously associated with the Bremer Stadtmusikanten (Town Musicians of Bremen) from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, whose beloved statue sits beside the Town Hall. Compact and largely flat, Bremen is easy to explore on foot, from the narrow lanes of the medieval Schnoor district to the Art Nouveau elegance of Böttcherstraße.

Planning Tips
- Book trains early — long-distance train connections can be pricey; advance-purchase or early-bird fares often beat group ticket deals.
