About this place

Bishoftu (also known as Debre Zeyit) is a resort town of about 207,000 people in central Ethiopia, sitting roughly 50 km from Addis Ababa. Its position on the road to Adama and proximity to the capital make it a popular weekend escape for both locals and international visitors.

Several crater lakes dot the area, lending the town a relaxed, scenic character. Lakeside resorts and easy access from Addis Ababa via bus or the Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway make it a straightforward addition to an Ethiopian itinerary.
