About this place
Białystok is the largest city in north-eastern Poland and the capital of the Podlachia region. It serves as the main gateway to the Green Lungs of Poland, a collection of natural attractions including Biebrza National Park and the famous Białowieża National Park, home to the European bison.
The city is compact and densely populated, with most major sights concentrated in a walkable center. Visitors can explore well-preserved 19th-century architecture along Lipowa and Warszawska streets and enjoy a taste of local culture and cuisine. Białystok is also the birthplace of Ludwik Zamenhof, the inventor of Esperanto.
