About this place
Bharatpur sits in eastern Rajasthan and is best known for the Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary, a vital stopover for migratory birds including the once-rare Siberian Crane. The city also holds a distinct place in the region's Jat history. Its streets mix old fort remnants, temples, mosques, and historic gateways.
Beyond the sanctuary, visitors find a modest, working city with a 18th-century fort and a cluster of Hindu temples. Most travelers use Bharatpur as a focused one- or two-night stop between Agra and Jaipur, though its railway connections make it a practical base for wider exploration.

Best Time to Visit
- Mid-September to November — the most pleasant window; warm but comfortable days (average 24.6°C), very low rainfall, and clear skies ideal for the bird sanctuary and fort walks.
- Mid-February to April — another excellent window with average temperatures around 24.7°C, minimal rain and plentiful sunshine; spring conditions make outdoor exploration easy.
- Winter (December–early February) — cooler and still visitable, though mornings can be chilly; the sanctuary remains active with migratory birds.
- Avoid May–early July — summer brings oppressive heat that makes walking the sanctuary and city streets difficult.
