About this place
Bandar Abbas is a major port city on the southern coast of Iran, serving as the capital of Hormozgān province. It is a working city whose population is drawn from across the country, and its character is shaped more by commerce and movement than by traditional sightseeing.
Many locals, known as Banduris, are recognizable by their colourful clothing and burqas. The city operates on a distinct rhythm — between roughly 14:00 and 18:00 most businesses close down, as the intense heat makes anything beyond the mildest activity impractical.

- Fish market — At the eastern end of the promenade, the busy fish market is full of character. Local fishermen are often happy to be photographed with their daily catch.
- Lively bazaar — Just back from the seafront, the bazaar sprawls across two blocks. It is the most colourful and energetic part of town, ideal for soaking in the local atmosphere.
- Cultural Museum of Handicrafts — Offers an indoor alternative for exploring regional crafts and traditions.

Best Time to Visit
- February to late April — This period provides the most comfortable climate for exploring, with average temperatures around 23.8°C and very little rain. Afternoon heat can still be intense, so plan major activities for the morning.
- Avoid the summer peak — The midday and afternoon hours in summer are oppressively hot, making any significant outdoor activity difficult. Most local commerce pauses during this time.
- Plan around the siesta — No matter the month, avoid scheduling anything demanding between 14:00 and 18:00. Use this time to rest, then explore the seafront or bazaar in the cooler evening hours.

Planning Tips
- Book accommodation in advance — Budget options are extremely limited, and solo travellers may struggle to find an affordable room. Confirming a reservation ahead of time is wise.
- Use it as a transport hub — The city is a practical gateway with daily ferries to Qeshm and Hormuz Islands, plus international ferry links to the UAE and Oman.
- Schedule sightseeing for mornings — The bazaar and fish market are at their best early in the day before the afternoon shutdown. Save indoor museums for the hotter hours.
- Be aware of the siesta — Almost the entire city closes from mid-afternoon until early evening. Stock up on water and plan to be indoors during this period, then resume activities after sunset.
