About this place

Last updated Jul 18, 2026

Baguio is a highland city of about 366,000 people nestled in the Cordillera mountains of northern Luzon. Known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines, its cool, temperate climate and abundant pine forests make it a refreshing escape from the lowland heat. The city serves as the economic and tourist hub of the region, offering a convenient base for exploring nearby destinations like Mount Pulag and Sagada.

Originally planned as a hill station by American architect Daniel Burnham in the early 1900s, Baguio retains a relaxed, pine-scented character. The dry season from November to April draws the most visitors, while the rainy months see fewer crowds and a quieter pace.

Planning Tips

Last updated Jul 18, 2026
  • Book early for February — Accommodations fill up well in advance during Panagbenga; reserve several weeks ahead if visiting during the festival.
  • Secure valuables — Keep passports and important documents in hotel safes, and stay alert in crowded areas, especially during holidays and festivals.
  • Choose your mountain road wisely — In rainy conditions, Marcos Highway is a safer, wider alternative to the shorter but more winding and landslide-prone Kennon Road.
  • Buy Good Shepherd products at the convent — Ube jam and strawberry preserves sold directly at the source are fresher than those from street stalls.
