About this place
Anshun is a compact city in Guizhou Province that serves as the gateway to some of southwestern China's most dramatic karst scenery. While the city’s historic wall and trading-post heritage have largely faded, it remains a lively commercial hub known for its traditional batik textiles and weekend markets where Bouyi women still sell produce in traditional dress.
The real draw lies just outside town. Towering waterfalls, vast underground caves, and limestone peaks create a landscape that has made Anshun a firm favorite on regional travel itineraries. Cool summer temperatures add to its appeal as an escape from the lowland heat, and the high-speed rail link now puts the area within easy reach of Kunming and Guiyang.

Things to Do
- Huangguoshu Waterfall — China's tallest waterfall, plunging 77.8 meters across a 101-meter-wide curtain. Multiple observation decks let you view the cascade from different angles, and it famously served as a filming location for the TV series Journey to the West.
- Dragon Palace Cave boat ride — Float through this spectacular underground karst cave system about 32 km southwest of Anshun, where illuminated stalactites and subterranean pools create a kaleidoscopic landscape.
- Getu Karst Park rock climbing — Tackle the Great Arch, a 70-meter-high natural limestone formation that has become a magnet for technical climbers and hosted international championships.
- Bouyi countryside walks — The road toward Huangguoshu marks the start of scenic Bouyi minority territory. Karst hills and small villages offer rewarding half-day rambles between the main sights.
