About this place
Anshan is a major city in Liaoning Province, set between the mountains of eastern Liaoning and the plains to the west about 92 km south of Shenyang. It is best known as a historic steel-production center — the home of the Angang Iron and Steel Company — as well as a gateway to striking natural scenery, hot-spring resorts, and landmark temples.
The city draws visitors with Qianshan Park National Park, the Tangangzi Hot Spring Spa, and the enormous Jade Buddha Palace Temple. Its name comes from a nearby mountain resembling a horse's saddle (鞍; Ān) beside a peak (山; shān). After decades dominated by heavy industry, the area has invested in tourism and cleaner production, making it a more inviting stop for travelers interested in northeastern China's culture, nature, and modern transformation.

Planning Tips
- If flying internationally, target Shenyang Taoxian International Airport (SHE) and allow about 1.5 hours for the road transfer to Anshan; shared taxis can cut costs.
- High-speed trains from Anshan West Railway Station reach Shenyang in roughly 20 minutes in summer — confirm timetables in winter when speeds may drop.
- Local buses are an affordable way to get around: bus No. 8 runs from the train station area to the Jade Buddha Temple and onward to Qianshan Park.
- Carry cash and a translation app — spa price lists, bathhouse menus, and market negotiations are typically conducted in Chinese.
- If buying leather goods at Nantai market for export, opt for local Chinese brands over fake Western labels to avoid customs headaches.
