About this place
Al Fallūjah is a city in Iraq's Baghdad Belts, often called the City of Mosques for its more than 200 mosques. It sits on the ancient site of Pumbedita, once home to a major Jewish Talmudic academy, adding a deep historical layer to its identity.
The city experienced heavy bombardment in 2004 and later fell under ISIL control before being liberated in 2015–2016. Today it is rebuilding, and while tourism infrastructure is not highly developed, it offers a sobering and significant look at modern Iraqi history for those with a strong interest in the region.
